Project 2 : Perspectives
Analyzing the Perspectives of My Siblings
For this project, The thinking skill used was perspectives. After a while of being indecisive, I decided to create a project about my siblings. I wanted to incorporate all of their views on where we grew up and how to see how they differed from mine. I came to the conclusion, that all though we were all braised in the same home, we were raised so differently.
Questions Asked
Questions Asked
- Do you think societally we had the same opportunities. Basically. Do you feel as though where we were raised, how we were raised ,and what schools we went to impacted our opportunities as we got older. And do you think our parents had a part or did we just took our own paths.
- Do you feel as thought we would have had better opportunities if we didn't live in the city?
- From your point of view, how do you think you were brought up?
- Do you think they treated us equally?
English
For the English portion, I decided to use the responses of my siblings and my own to create a spoken word poem. My poem consisted of my perspective mainly and one general stereotype which was "you're from the city you won't amount to anything."

"Yes how we were raised impacts a lot of opportunities we make and have. We were not raised the same and there’s no one to blame honestly mom had us young we were her trial runs so she can be 'better' for you! The environment we're in molds us to become who we are as a person but ultimately you have your own choices."

"Well yeah cause we come from somewhere that most people don’t "make it out" so our parents really did have a part in that because they wanted us to be different from everyone else. Even tho that they were strict and we all bumped heads that just want us to be better than them. Like dad showed me so much that I can use in life showed me a trade which now can potentially be my career. I don’t think they really took us down the path we're at now but they put us in the right spot to start our journey because our “path” depends on us and how we take it. Depending on where you go to school or the environment you're in, you could have better opportunities but at the end of the day it’s who you know and how you take the opportunities that are given to you. And no, I don’t think that they treat is equally because most people would see if you are from the 'city' or 'hood' you can’t amount to anything and we are beating the odds. I was brought up in a 'you gotta get it how you live' type of life. You can’t let anyone take anything from you and if you want it you gotta go get it."

" I feel like we all had different opportunities because we were all raised different. Being in different schools also Impacted our opportunities different because all schools didn’t have the same funding, level of education, energy, or discipline. As far as our dad, I feel like he had a huge part he just pushed us a little to hard that we ended up taking our own paths.Yes, I feel like we would’ve had a much better opportunities just because we would’ve been in a better situation growing up in a better neighborhood. I personally feel like i grew up on the rough end I mean I had dad there for some stuff but not everything. I feel like I was forced to depend on myself young. And being brought up in the city never made it easier cause you have to work twice as hard and I feel like we get looked at different cause we’re from a lower class so hell no, we get treated like we’re all criminals or illegals."

"I guess I'll start by saying I liked the way I was raised, other than a select few things, I feel as though I had a great childhood.I wouldn't say we were all treated equally because we weren't, don't get it twisted none of us ever wanted anything but we were treated differently and it took me a while to realize that. Nt everyone is on the same level and has to be treated the same. I do feel that we all had the same opportunities, honestly. We were all put in a position to do better than average just by the way all of us were raised and the schools we went too. But, some of us chose to do and failed to take advantage of opportunities that we're given to us."

Art
For the art portion, my mind was completely blank. With the help of my Art teacher Mr.Grandi, I used a family picture as my base. Before continuing, I did more research on an artist named Mark Bradford, Mark only uses paper as his muse. He stacks layer after layer then rips, sands and cuts pieces off to take you back to the root of the piece to show you that there is a deeper meaning. Using his technique I then created a piece of my own.

Civics
For civics, I took a look at community I was raised in from the perspective of a new-comer. I viewed this neighborhood as if I was a city planner coming to benefit the people who live in the community but before I did that I had to do research. My research consisted of the statistics of the different races in this area and their success rate. From there I decided if I wanted to benefit everyone, I was going to "build" a community center mainly for the kids because the city becomes more and more dangerous and everyone should have an outlet rather than turning to the streets.
